5 S'porean youths aged 17 to 21 nabbed for suspected involvement in drug transactions on Telegram

SINGAPORE — Five youths aged between 17 and 21 were arrested and an estimated S$71,000 worth of drugs were seized following operations by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) targeting drug transactions conducted through messaging application Telegram.

Investigations by CNB into the drug activities of all arrested suspects are ongoing. The police are also investigating two men, aged 20 and 21, for possessing scheduled weapons.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Chang Gim Fook said that CNB successfully mounted its operations following investigations on those who had bought drugs via Telegram.

The deputy director of the CNB’s Intelligence Division added that there is “no safe haven” for drug offenders, whether online or offline.

“Drug offenders who think that such chat applications would enable them to transact anonymously cannot be more wrong… CNB will continue to monitor, track down and take decisive actions against them,” he said.
